Guest Room Ready Before Family Comes to Denton

Guest Room Ready! A neatly made hotel-style guest bed with layered pillows and text reading "Guest Room Ready Before Family Comes to Denton" with the Denton Maids logo.

October in Denton fills spare bedrooms. Parents drive up for a UNT home game. Grandparents come for TWU’s Boo at the U. A sister stays the weekend of 31 Days of Denton and wants to walk downtown after the kids are in bed. The guest room is usually the office, the craft room, or the bedroom that collected every box you meant to donate. Be Guest Room Ready Before Family Comes with Denton Maids.

You do not need a guest suite. You need a bed that feels intentional, a bathroom that is not the kids’ bathroom, and a clear path from the front door to both. This is the checklist we give Denton hosts the week family is due.

Who is actually coming this month?

UNT does not publish a fall break on the 2026 calendar. The visits are weekends. Home football at DATCU Stadium, including Saturday, October 10, and a Thursday night game on October 29, pulls parents into Denton. TWU’s Boo at the U is Thursday, October 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. on the Hubbard Hall lawn. 31 Days of Denton runs through October 31, with downtown events and weekend shuttles from Golden Triangle Mall.

Same prep for all three. Someone is sleeping over, using your shower, and looking for a hanger. Be Guest Room Ready!

Two days out: the bed

Guest Room Ready! Modern, brightly lit hotel-style guest bedroom featuring a neatly made bed with white linens, curved grey seating nook, work table with laptop, and large wall mirror.

First on our Guest Room Ready Checklist: Do this the day before they arrive, not the morning they text that they are on the way.

  • Wash sheets, pillowcases, and a spare blanket. Dry them all the way. A damp sheet in a closed room smells musty by night.
  • Make the bed the same day. Two pillows they can actually sleep on, plus one decorative pillow if you want it. Skip the pile.
  • Check the mattress topper. If it has been on since August, it needs a vacuum.
  • Put a glass or water bottle on the nightstand. Phone chargers disappear on guest weekends. Leave one.
  • If the room is also an office, move the laptop and the paper stack. A clear nightstand matters more than a styled shelf.

The closet and the floor

Guest Room Ready: A cozy, modern bedroom with a neatly made white bed, dark faux-fur throw blanket, colorful patterned pillows, matching black bedside lamps, and a framed city skyline print on the wall
  • Hang three empty hangers. That is enough for a weekend.
  • Empty one drawer, or clear a corner of the dresser.
  • Leave a luggage spot that is not blocking the door.
  • Vacuum, including under the bed if the frame is open. Dust shows on dark clothes bags.
  • Take the laundry basket out of the room. Guests should not be stepping over your week.

Park the overflow in a bedroom they will not open. You are hosting, not listing the house.

The bathroom they will use

Modern, upscale bathroom featuring a freestanding soaking tub behind a glass enclosure, warm wood floating vanity, wall-hung toilet, and natural stone-look tiles.

If only one room gets a real clean, make it this one. A guest bath is small and impossible to fake.

  • Toilet, sink, faucet, and the counter around it.
  • Mirror, including the toothpaste spots along the bottom.
  • Tub or shower if anyone will use it. A rinse is not a clean.
  • Fresh hand towel on a hook. Spare bath towel in the room or on a bar, not buried in a hall closet.
  • Soap that is not a sliver. Full toilet paper roll, plus a backup they can see.
  • Empty the trash. Keep the plunger in the room, out of the sight line.

If they will use the kids’ bathroom, put toothbrushes in a cup and tub toys in a bin for the weekend.

The path from the door

Bright, airy hallway with light wood floors, a natural jute runner, framed wall art, and a wooden console table leading directly into a sunlit bedroom.

Family arrives after dark in October. The porch light matters.

  • Shake the mat. Wipe the door handle. Sweep pecan hulls off the porch.
  • Replace the dead bulb outside.
  • Clear shoes off the entry so a suitcase has a place to land.
  • Leave a note on the fridge with the Wi-Fi password. You will be asked before the bags are unzipped.

Last but not the least in our Guest Room Ready Checklist: What to skip?

Do not clean the inside of every closet. Do not reorganize the garage. Do not deep-clean bedrooms nobody will enter. A guest weekend is won in three places: the bed, the bath, and the ten steps between the front door and both.

Baseboards along that path are worth a damp cloth. The rest can wait until your normal clean.

Hand the scrubbing off to us!

Keep the parts that are personal: which room they get, the extra blanket, where the coffee is. Hand off the part that eats the afternoon before they arrive.

A Denton Maids one-time clean covers the guest-facing work: the guest bath, dusting, floors, the bed made if you want linens handled, and the entry. Recurring clients can add a visit the week of October 13 or the week of October 27. New hosts can book a single pre-guest clean and go back to their normal routine after.

We clean homes in Denton, Aubrey, Corinth, Cross Roads, Krugerville, Oak Point, Pilot Point, and nearby Denton County neighborhoods. The price is on the booking form before you confirm.

Questions Denton hosts ask

When should I get the guest room ready?

Two days out for laundry and the bathroom. The morning of is only for a fresh hand towel and the Wi-Fi note. If family is in for October 15 or Halloween weekend, book the clean for the Monday or Tuesday before.

What if the guest room is the office?

Move the work off the bed and the nightstand. Leave the desk, but clear a chair that is not your chair. A made bed in a working office still reads as a welcome.

Do I need to clean the whole house?

No. Entry, guest bath, guest room, and the kitchen counter where they will make coffee. The other bedrooms can stay closed.

Can I book this as a gift for someone hosting?

Yes. A pre-guest clean is a useful gift for a parent hosting college weekends or a neighbor who drew the family Halloween party. Call and we will set the date.

Book the visit before the driveway fills up!

Halloween weekend and the UNT Thursday night game on October 29 land on the same stretch of calendar. If you want the guest bath and floors done before bags come through the door, book this week.
